From Strategy to Scale: Our Founder Joins TekCyte as Co-CEO

We’re pleased to announce that our Founder and Managing Director, Tara James, has been appointed Co-CEO of TekCyte Limited, an Australian biotechnology company specialising in drug and chemical-free surface coatings for industrial and medical applications.

TekCyte’s flagship innovation, BIOINVISIBLE™, is designed to prevent life-threatening infections and blood clots when applied to medical devices such as orthopedic and dental implants. It also inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria on surfaces like water filtration systems – offering broad impact across healthcare and industrial sectors.

Tara’s new role – and why it makes sense

Since 2021, Tara has worked closely with the TekCyte team to develop and implement strategies that position the business for long-term commercial success. From securing investment to communicating complex science in compelling ways, her contribution has been focused on helping TekCyte scale its technology from the lab to real-world application.

Now, as Co-CEO, she’ll continue this work at an executive level, while maintaining her director and strategic responsibilities with Small and Mighty Group.

Tara’s appointment reflects the same capability she brings to every Small and Mighty engagement: deep cross-sector experience, strategic clarity, and the ability to navigate complex landscapes to deliver results.

With more than 20 years’ experience across consulting, manufacturing, medtech, biomedical and green technology, Tara has led commercial transformation, international expansion, investment attraction, and brand strategy for some of Australia’s most promising innovators. Under her leadership, Small and Mighty Group has grown into a global consultancy with above-industry growth rates, advising organisations across 30+ industry sectors, including science, education, infrastructure, and sustainability.

What this means for Small and Mighty clients

Our team, led day-to-day by Director and Leadership Specialist Torben Soelvsteen, continues to support our clients with the same focus, energy and commercial insight we’re known for. Torben brings decades of global leadership and coaching expertise, and together with Tara’s continued oversight, Small and Mighty Group remains fully operational and client-focused.

This appointment doesn’t dilute our efforts – it strengthens them. It’s just one more way Small and Mighty Group stays connected and fully up to date with the industries we serve, building our expertise and expanding the impact we can make.

As always, we remain committed to helping our clients lead change, adapt to complexity, and turn strategy into action.
